“Where would You have me go? What would You have me do? What would You have me say, and to whom?” A Course in Miracles Prayer often used by Marianne Williamson
I woke this morning in my April rental house near Canyon Lake in the Texas Hill Country. It is spacious and peaceful with a marvelous back porch overlooking a natural area. I can hear the birds singing. It is very windy and cool.
It feels good to just nestle in my new space as I reflect on the three stops I made the first two days on the road…
By noon of the first day of the journey I was at the home of my peace advocate friend, Bren in beautiful bluebonnet country south of Brenham. We ate lunch on her porch overlooking a wildflower meadow of Indian Paintbrush.
One purpose for my journey, I believe, is to connect with the illustrator called to bring my children’s book to life. I got one of those “spiritual electrical charges” when Bren mentioned that she is a watercolor artist and showed me examples of her lovely work.
Was Spirit speaking? Is it possible that the first day of my journey, I would connect with the illustrator and that it would be Bren? In the past I would have been worried about making the right decision.
We agreed to sit with our questions and to see what unfolds.
SANCTUARY AT MANOR
The visit to cousins at Manor, near Austin, closed a 25-year circle in my life.
I was nurtured at their “Sanctuary” home in 1988 just before being “called” to move from Louisiana to Texas. This same wonderful couple came to be with me at the hospital the day that my husband died.
I stopped to deliver a family heirloom and it was perfect to spend the first night of this new adventure in their home.
I enjoyed the lively activities of children, dogs and chickens and we also had time rock painting and for meaningful conversations.
SPIRIT ON THE JOB
On my second morning as I set out to reconnect with my friend, Alice, in Lakeway, I got turned around and ended up in Round Rock.
Spirit was evident as I realized I was going the wrong direction. After wandering a while, I pulled into a bank parking lot. Directly in front of the car, was a sign pointing to the right highway and I was back on track for my visit.
I didn’t hear a voice speaking, but I “knew” to pull over at that spot.
My friendship with Alice goes back to the late 1960’s when we were young mothers. We reminisced our spiritual adventures together and how God called each of us to leave that place to settle in new locations.
It was so nice to connect again and we explored possibilities for other visits while I am in the general “neighborhood.”
We agreed to leave those details in the hands of Spirit.
After arriving at my “April House”, in Canyon Lake, my hostess Linda came to welcome me.
It is interesting how Spirit helped us find a connection right away. We are both widows – and our husbands were both named Jake.
Linda was raised at a Presbyterian mission in the Congo where her medical missionary parents established Moma Hospital.
The hospital has fallen into disrepair and Linda’s calling is to aid in its restoration. A big need right now is to get fresh water up the hill to the facility. The website has an interesting video about the history and needs.
And so the circle widens…
Hi, I'm Judy Henry. What if we left the past behind? Home? Years of accumulated treasurers? Friends and family?
What would Spirit teach us if we stepped into the unknown and just trusted – one day at a time?
I’m on that kind of journey. I invite you to come along with me as we explore new ways of trusting, new ways of connecting, new ways of being – as we let go of accumulated problems, beliefs, and limitations to reveal our true selves and to discover why we are here.
You have an open invitation to come along. Check in when you have the time. Sign up to receive posts by e-mail, if you like. (I'll never share your e-mail.) Perhaps we may even meet in person somewhere along the way.
